"I am deeply humbled by the courage and bravery that my clients show every day in my office. It is a privilege for me to hear their stories; to hear about their struggles and challenges, as well as their successes and achievements.
I believe that we can all experience growth and positive change within our lives and that we can find clarity of mind and heart. I believe that we can find ways to live authentically and that we can find our voices and sense of belonging in our worlds."

As a psychologist, I feel it is important to meet each client where they are at in their journey through flexible and relational practices. This means I approach therapy by tailoring sessions to you, drawing on evidence- based treatment modalities (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Gottman Method) and related techniques to best meet clients’ needs and facilitate sustainable, positive changes in their lives.
My approach is grounded in the belief that feeling understood is a core human need and a crucial element in the therapeutic process. I value the significance of clients’ unique life experiences and the greater context of their lives and am focused on creating a therapeutic environment that promotes understanding, compassion, collaboration, and empathy.

Working from a solution-focused, narrative, or art therapy perspective, I can help guide you towards what you are seeking. Additionally, I pull from mindfulness, spirituality, and holistic health as appropriate for each individual.”

HOPE is to want something to happen or to be true. It may be hope and courage that brought you here. I believe that we all have the power and innate wisdom to grow, change, and find the things we HOPE for. I believe that you are the expert on yourself and your relationships.
I am grateful for my own journey through marriage, divorce, and starting over at middle age. My adversity and struggles afforded me the gifts of compassion, accountability, empathy, insight, and hope.

Over the years I have had the honour of witnessing the change that people make when they engage in various forms of therapy and can attest to the incredible amount of strength and personal knowledge people bring to this process. Life often presents us with unexpected challenges that can feel overwhelming and insurmountable. Life transitions, stress, depression and anxiety can negatively impact our coping and confidence. These difficulties often become the dominant story in people’s lives and get in the way of engaging in life in the ways that they want.

Do you feel disconnected and alone as you journey through life? Are your emotions overwhelming right now? Does it feel like the isolation, anxiety, depression, and emotional overwhelm are a barrier to living a whole and connected life? Maybe you’ve experienced some kind of trauma, sexual abuse, or depression and you are at a point where you are ready to move forward and leave those experiences in the past. There are many reasons why you might be here reading this, but you are at a place where you are seeking support to feel better.

Navigating the changes and transitions in childhood and adolescence can be scary. From physical changes to having different feelings about ourselves and others, this period of time is pivotal in our development and can be confusing to figure out alone. Without guidance and support, we can feel lost. I believe that with the right tools and support, anyone can begin their journey towards an improved quality of life. The goal is to find a safe environment where you can share your emotions and feel heard. My hope is to create a collaborative and culturally informed practice by valuing you as the expert in your own life. I also follow the perspective that the mind and the body are connected, therefore all the changes we make have an impact in our physical health and vice versa.

Registered Social Worker
Everybody needs help sometimes… and that’s okay! Sometimes we need somewhere to feel heard or to feel safe enough to let our guard down. Sometimes we lose sight of our inherent worth and value as a human being. And sometimes we need an avenue to help us better understand ourselves and the world around us. As we develop our therapeutic relationship, I will walk beside you as you take steps toward the life you want to live. Whether you’re struggling with day-to-day stressors, a significant life event, or symptoms of a mental health diagnosis (just to name a few), I am here for you.

Hello and thank you in advance for taking the first big step toward relieving of the tension you are experiencing. Life can be tricky with challenge and triumph or, sometimes, disappointment and regret. These ups and downs can lead to a collection of past hurts which cause you to feel misunderstood, overwhelmed, hopeless or just plain tired of dealing with others, or even with yourself. It's ok to not be ok You deserve relief in your life to move from just surviving toward thriving in your life.
Sommer McLauchlin
Registered Provisional Psychologist
I believe that understanding how our mind and body work to protect us from difficult experiences over the course of the lifespan can help us make sense of ourselves and the world around us. We often equate our experiences to self worth, and may feel stuck in a repetitive loop of stress, anxiety, and feeling misunderstood.
Using a combination of science, evidence-based interventions, humor, and maybe a few too many swear words…(sorry in advance!), my goal is to create a safe, open, and accepting space to support your healing journey.

“As individuals, we each have a unique set of values that guide us. We may or may not be aware of what these values are, and they may shift over time and with experience. I believe that by understanding what is most important to us we have an opportunity to use this information to manage our thoughts, beliefs, and behaviour in a way that allows peace of mind and authenticity, which in turn leads to a meaningful life. Using our values to direct our choices and ground us in who we are can allow us to overcome challenges and put us on a path to becoming our best selves..”

Life is beautiful and unique, and it can sometimes have its challenges. It is a journey, and as one of my favourite authors, Brene Brown, would say, "The middle is messy, but it is also where the magic happens." I work from a person-centered perspective where you are the expert in your own life, and my goal is to walk alongside your journey as you navigate your path by building a trusting therapeutic relationship and holding a space for you. I do believe that strength and resilience live within each of us. Because of this, I work alongside my clients as they discover and utilize their strengths and work towards the change they want to see.

Do you often get a sense that there’s much more to you than what you’re tapping into? That you’re capable of so much more, but feel blocked, or just can’t find the motivation or resources to get where you want to be? At work or in your relationships, this could be showing up as a big sense of distraction — even though you’re doing so much, it seems like you’re getting nowhere. You have high hopes and big dreams, but feel disconnected. Something might feel “off” and it’s hard for you to feel motivated to keep going through motions that no longer seem to make much sense.

“The word ‘therapy’ has two roots: 1) to medically treat a disease or injury and 2) to be in service. The first starts with the belief that something is broken and must be fixed. The second starts with the idea that healing begins with being heard and understood. Experience has taught me to walk the second path whenever possible.
Therapy is more about getting to what’s meaningful than it is about fixing what’s broken, though ‘broken’ is often how we feel! One reason for this is the confusion, guilt, shame and/or helplessness that come from being stuck!.”
Nico Scholten
Registered Psychologist
