Alison Gaffney
Registered Psychologist, Certified Art Therapist, Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC)

“Reaching out for help and guidance shows strength, and I always appreciate clients’ strength as well as their curiosity and willingness to grow. I genuinely wish for all my clients to feel safe, heard, and respected so that the healing work can begin.

My own challenging background allows me to bring meaningful depth and understanding to the counselling setting and your unique obstacles. Working from a solution-focused, narrative, or art therapy perspective, I can help guide you towards what you are seeking. Additionally, I pull from mindfulness, spirituality, and holistic health as appropriate for each individual.”

Alison is a Registered Psychologist and a Certified Art Therapist and is a professional member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association as well as the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta. She completed her Master of Counselling and her Advanced Diploma in Art Therapy in graduate school and has prior experience working with many different clients. One setting Alison particularly resonated with was experiential wilderness therapy in the Kananaskis area where she helped clients experiencing significant trauma, multiple mental health challenges, addictions, and difficult family and relationship dynamics. Alison offers her clients talk therapy, art therapy, or a combination of both modalities. She enjoys working with adults and children as well as families together. The level of healing that can come from art therapy is often surprising to clients, however, talk therapy/counselling is also a great fit for many.

Some client challenges she helps with include self-improvement, mental health challenges, trauma, relationship difficulties, school or work issues, grief, and addictions.

Alison has a personal interest in holistic health and wellness, and in her spare time you can often find her engaging in the arts or nature exploration. Lastly, she has been known to walk the talk with daily meditation practice and using self-care/LOA habits in her everyday life.

Feel free to reach out, she is happy to consult with you and talk about what you need any time.
