Sommer McLauchlin, M.A.
Registered Provisional Psychologist

I believe that understanding how our mind and body work to protect us from difficult experiences over the course of the lifespan can help us make sense of ourselves and the world around us. We often equate our experiences to self worth, and may feel stuck in a repetitive loop of stress, anxiety, and feeling misunderstood.

Using a combination of science, evidence-based interventions, humor, and maybe a few too many swear words…(sorry in advance!), my goal is to create a safe, open, and accepting space to support your healing journey.

Whether You Are:

•A teen who feels misunderstood, and are trying to navigate the pressures of social demands, friendships, dating, relationships with parents, identity, school expectations, anxiety, depression, peer pressure, etc.;

•A parent struggling to connect with your kids, keep your cool in times of stress, set limits, have conversations about hard things, or perhaps work through your child’s medical condition, disability, or mental health diagnosis;

•A family struggling to understand one another and keep the peace at home;

•A new parent struggling to adjust to your new role;

•Having a hard time with life transitions and just feeling stuck;

•Struggling to create meaningful relationships in your life and keep falling into the same patterns;

•Looking to make sense of your experiences so you can understand yourself on a deeper level;

•Looking to work through a traumatic experience;

My hope is to help you create a path to healing that feels meaningful to you.

My counselling approach is casual, creative, and collaborative where your unique needs, personality, and input are at the centre of our work together. I welcome you as you are!  I offer in-person, tele-psychology, or therapeutic walk sessions outside.

I have a Master of Arts Degree in Counselling Psychology and have over 18 years of experience working in the mental health field with children, adolescents/teens, adults, and families in a variety of settings. I have 2 adult children and my experience as a parent has helped shape my practice as a psychologist.
