Dr. Kristian Whillans
Registered Provisional Psychologist

For everyone, change is the only constant in life.  But for many, that constant includes the fear of change. For other’s, it is simply not knowing how to change.  We can become paralysed by the symptoms that appear when our lives are unaligned with our values and beliefs, relationships break down, the pressures of life add up, overwhelm sets in, and we react to others in ways we may not have intended. I believe that while we all have the capacity to change the direction of our lives toward positive outcomes, it all begins with changing how we view ourselves.

If you are dealing with self-doubt, anger, and ‘negative’ emotions, I assure you, you are not alone.  I believe that every one of us has the ability to improve our own lives, our relationships with others, our relationship with ourselves, and ultimately, the outcome of our lives.  But change is hard. Often this work requires help from others, and reaching out for that help may be the first fear you may need to overcome.  If you have any questions or feel I may be able to help you in any way please feel free to book a free consultation, or email me at kristian@vividpsychology.com.   I look forward to the honor of being a member of your mental health team.

A little about me

I have been on the path of helping others recognize their individual abilities to affect change in the world for over 20 years. I believe in the power of honest personal journeys.  Throughout my life I have experienced first hand that meaningful positive change is possible at any age or stage.  What drives me is witnessing the ripple effect when someone discovers their authentic power beginning the personal transformation that leads to broader positive change in families, communities and the world at large.

My education in the field of mental health and community development has provided me with a strong foundation for my practice.  I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist with a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from California Southern University, a Master of Community Development from the University of Victoria, and a Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Calgary.  My own journey of continuous learning and growth has taught me that transformation is not a destination, but an ongoing process.  I bring this understanding to my work, meeting clients wherever they are on their path with compassion, curiosity, and genuine presence.

I have a strong connection to the great outdoors and have travelled the world in pursuit of adventure.  I have lived and worked in Japan, South East Asia, and in some areas of Africa.  As a dedicated father I have begun the process of exposing my children to the exhilaration of scrambling to local mountaintops and planning backcountry experiences throughout the Rocky Mountains.  Our connection to nature strengthens our connection to one another, and instills an understanding that everything and everyone are interconnected. We understand that helping others is really helping ourselves.
